Default Charger not Charging New Batteries

Bought used golf cart and installed 6 brand new 8 volt batteries - cart ran great. Plugged charger in and meter gauge never moved off of 0. Assumed batteries had full charge. Used cart everyday for about 3 days, cart started to run sluggish. Left cart on charger for 2 full days and still no meter movement and cart has no power. Any suggestions/ideas on what the problem could be? Thanks.

You are ruining your new batteries.

Permanent damage is being done to the plates as you read this.

Most likely you have not re connected the charge wires when you installed the new batteries you are trying to kill.

New batteries must be charged before use and then it is generally accepted that many shallow discharges and recharges are best to achieve full potential. What year is the cart?

yep what scotty said, now you need to figure if you don,t have enough voltage to turn charger on or you forgot to hook red charge wire up or you have an OBC problem........follow red 10 gage wire rom charge receptical it should be connected to pos post of #1 battery..........if all is right your charger has to see 36-38 volts before it will come on so you,ll need to see what pack voltage is..........get these 2 things done 1st........................

Wires are all connected. How do I charge the batteries to get to 36-38 volts in order for the charger to recognize them? Can I connect them to my standard auto battery charger?

I think it's a 1999 - the serial # starts with A99.

yes you can charge each one with a 12 volt charger for 1/2 hour you have to disconnect any cables and do not leave it unattended while doing this......1/2 each should give you plenty of voltage to turn charger on if theres nothing else wrong.......get yourself a digital voltage meter also.......................

I am reading between 6 and 8 volts individually and reading 44 volts in the pack and cart is still running like the batteries are low.

This will give you an idea of the state of charge: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-readings.html

You have run your batteries severely low and need to figure out how to get them charging before trying to use the cart.

You should always charge after the days use and should not run your batteries below 50-60%.

Good luck, I really hate seeing this as they are new batteries.

BTW, what kind of batteries did you get?

is charger working? at 44 volts your trying to run cart with dead batteries......good full pack will be approx 51 volts........you need to get cart charger working and let it do its thing keep your fingers crossed you didn,t ruin batteries.......get cart charger working if its still not coming on there are other issues...............................

The idea to connect an automotive charger to each battery is to bring the total pack voltage high enough so your cart charger will turn on. After that, you need to plug your carts charger in and let it run and complete a charge. At 44v your pack is considered dead and your cart won't move with a low voltage like that. Does the charger come on now when you plug it in?
