Default Stops after 20 feet

Was given a 92 EZGO Freedom 36V with no batteries. I put in 3 good 12V car batts. It goes about 20 feet then stops and won't move again for about 10 min. What's causing this? Is using car batteries a workable option for short distances? Thanks.

You'll either have a black plastic cover under which is a controller or a set of coils in a metal housing. Both will be between the three batteries on either side.

You're asking a lot of 3 12v cranking batteries but theoretically it should work. For 20' anyway. Sorry, that was uncalled for but you had to know that was coming right? Ask anyone, 3 12v auto batts ain't gonna last long at all.

After it quits is there any heat coming from anywhere in the battery bay? Controller, cables, FNR, solenoid, etc.

No heat that I can detect. Any guess why it would come to life again after a few minutes? I guess the main question is whether there is something more wrong that would make it not worthwhile putting $800 worth of new batteries in it. Thanks

Feel the controller when it quits. If it is hot than more than likely its your issue. when it cools the cart runs again.

I'll do that. I got the test procedures too and will run the controller test before and after it quits. That should tell the tale.
