Rear Spring rate
Does anyone have any idea what the stock spring rate is normally on rear coil springs on a cart. Since my lift has grown by the front axle build stackup.
I'm picking up a new set of rear coil springs tomorrow. Currently the '79 EZGO has a set that's 11" relaxed. I'm thinking of getting a 14" set with 100 pound per inch of compression. My front lift is now 7 1/2". I has a 3" set of spacers on the rear, so with another 3" longer spring I'm thinking should set me pretty close. The 2 5/8" ID coil springs start at 100# and go up from there in rate. |

Re: Rear Spring rate
Went with 100# ones. Seem ok. Know more when driving it. I think 125# would be fine also.

Re: Rear Spring rate
Sounds good. I'm looking at doing something similar, but I want to go with a 16" spring. When you put the springs on, how much did they settle from their free length?
Thanks. |

Re: Rear Spring rate
When you lifted your front end, did you have to add risers for your tie rods? I did a simple 4" lift and it seems like the tie rods are extended real low. What are your thoughts?

Re: Rear Spring rate
Willd, I don't think they compressed at all with just the body weight. The reason I went with the 14" and a 3" spacer is that was the longest I could find locally. If you are going to carry 4 people or heavy in the rear, I would say #125 or #150. Of course all depends too on what weight "normal" riders are. I'm 215# wife is maybe #110. But add two other adults and that makes a big drop.

Re: Rear Spring rate
DakotaEight, Take a look here. It's the full build on this one, I think you'll get all your answers thru the pictures. I actually built the front dropped axle and dropped only the steering arm down and the right draglink mount up.
