Has anyone tried on of these Duromax engines?
Been thinking about buying one off ebay because it is less than $300 with free shipping. It is 16hp single cylinder with a 1" x 2 3/4" long shaft. You can even get it with electric start for less than $350.
I've got an old G1 yamaha that eventually I will change the engine on and even though I would lose reverse this would give it alot more pep. Had really been looking into snowmobile engines but they need to be wound out to run well and I ain't looking for speed so much as I am power. If anyone has one of these engines or has heard any feedback on them please let me know. Thanks |

This is the Chinese Honda clone motor. Many people have put these in their carts. Search Honda clone.

Take a look at The New Guy's Geep1. It's a G1 with a hand fabbed Jeep body a clone engine and a new rear end for reverse.

The New Guy's Geep1 is a true work of art. Check out his thread to see how he did it. Also check out the Clone Engines Swap section at the top of the page, and this thread:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...cs-thread.html Home Depot is selling these engines too, and you can get one for as little as $250: http://www.homedepot.com/Outdoors-Ou...atalogId=10053 |

Re: Has anyone tried on of these Duromax engines?
Be careful of the charging, for example I think the $250 home depot one has no charging and some others only 3A and you have to charge the battery. Its not a problem if you keep the stock generator like I did. Supposedly you can get another coil for the 3A to double it, I gave TheNewGuy the info I think on a place that supposed to have them.
The one I did (clone specs thread) runs great, though we keep having issues with the carb jetting. Not sure how much of it is our fault had a leak in the intake the last time it acted strange. I'm really thinking of getting another motorcycle type carb for it and tossing the lawnmower carb. Going to do mine in the spring. It has about double the power, its a riot to run. Also want to deck the head on mine and advance the timing. |

Re: Has anyone tried on of these Duromax engines?
The HD engine is a bare-bones unit- no electric start or charging system. If you need them for your conversion, it's not the right engine, but if you are going to set it up with the cart's original starter/generator, perfect.
