Wink a few battery questions

hey guys i have a 48 volt cushman commander 2100.I have a few questions regarding the batteries.what should the volt reading be just after charging? How low in voltage can I go before recharging? What is your feelings about the bubbling or boiling of the batteries during the charging?I was told 2 different things about that. Some one said it was bad. someone said it is actually good because it moves the electolytes around and gets it off the bottom of battery giving it a more even charge. Thanks for you help Mike

Near the end of the charge cycle each 6v battery should be charging about 7.7v, an 8v battery 10.3v after charging and resting for an hour or more the 6v battery should be 6.4v and the 8v should be 8.5v. Total pack voltage after charge and rest for 48v should be 50.96v

In non-scientific terms, as a battery declines in charge the lead sulfate increases and the lead and acid declines and some lead sulfate settles to the bottom. Charging boils the battery and causes the electrolyte to mix and re-energize the plates, restoring the charge.

I tend to bring my 48 volt pack up to 56-58 volts for a full charge (this is the voltage while still charging, once a week or so I bring it up to 60 volts to get them equalized, when I unplug the charger the voltage tends to drop down to the 51-52 volt range until I turn the key.

My batteries are 2004 as well and still come up to 6.4. The boiling is the desulfate/equalizing part of the charging cycle.
The epsom salt thing has been beat to death here and there's lots of posts on it. IMO, it works on some but not many, basically a waste of time. Run your batteries for another year and start saving for the new set.

is it possible to use 6- 8 volt batteries rather than using 8- 6 volt ones.

Yes, no problem, a little shorter runtime with 6x8v than 8x6v batteries. If you have the space for the 8x6v, that is preferable.
