Default 460 runs then dies

I’m having problem with my 460 in my ds. It will run fine for 10 minutes or so then dies and won’t start. It will turn over but won’t fire. The fuel filters are full, brand new carb installed bigger jet. I do notice some oil coming from the filter. Last time it did this I thought maybe the oil was getting sucked in and fouling the plug. Upon plug removal after it died plug was completly dry and almost indicating a lean running condition. Again both fuel filters full and pump is pumping fuel. Today I had ran it again thinking maybe the coil was heating up and dying, so I put inline spark checker with the plug. Ran it again same condition. When I crank the motor I do have spark so it is not the coil. I can tow it home let it sit 10 mins and it fires right back up

The oil is coming from the breather and valve cover bolt not the intake

Install a catch can and vent the valve cover into that. That will prevent oil from re-entering through the intake.

If you have spark, then it must be a fuel delivery issue. Do you have a return line run?

Take a spray bottle full of fresh clean fuel and keep it with you. When it stalls out, try and start it by spraying the fuel into the carb. If it starts, then you have just confirmed a fuel delivery issue with the carb.

I suspect the carb bowl is running dry.

You may find it is trash in the carbs fuel bowl. Before changing over to the hot rod glass fuel filter I ran into this issue using the standard small engine filters.

Yes when I got home I dropped the bowl not much fuel in there. Gonna put 3 psi electric pump on it and give it a try

It’s weird my carryall has same engine and has no issues with the factory fuel pump. Even has a bigger mikuni round slide carb on it I don’t get it.

Bowl was clean but not much fuel. Gonna try the 3 psi electric pump.

Both Shepard and I tried the cheap E Bay low pressure pump and both of us got stranded on a hot day and long run with the pump overloading and shutting down. I am now using the Holley Mighty Mite 12-426 low pressure pump on both carts. Not cheap but works well

That’s what I’m afraid of, I have 1 I bought off there back in 2016 gonna give it a whirl but don’t have the best expectations. If it runs longer than the other 1 I will look into the holly pump.
