Body scratches and painting top
my 97 TXT looks like the prior owner drove it thru the bushes.. or thru fences or both. There are scuffs & scratches EVERYWHERE on the green body. My intent is to get this old 36V reliable, safe, presentable then sell it.
Can I "buff" or rub out the scuffs & scratches on the body? ---------and------------ what is the best way to paint a plastic top. Anyone try the new Krylon plastic paint ? I question the durability.. Anyone have some experience with it ? |

Re: Body scratches and painting top
On my top I sanded with a DA sander 180 grit then I sprayed basecoat black right on the plastic then shot it with some good urethane clear and it looks great.

Re: Body scratches and painting top
Any you choose I painted my cart body with the sublime Pearl
From dupli-color you can buy it in quarts at Advance autoparts it is laquer $22.00 did the entire body and they do sell the clear for it but it is laquer as well and doesn't stand up to wear and tear like urethane clear so I used some nason (Dupont) cheap clear over it! And I think the clear was $ 55.00 for a gallon $ 20.00 for hardener but the black basecoat was just generic old pre- mixed black |

Re: Body scratches and painting top
I used clear plastic primer from Lowes and then painted my top black with regular spray paint. It turned out great. Use a flat paint though, gloss looked terrible and I had to redo it.

Re: Body scratches and painting top
I am somewhat concerned with my "painting the top" ideas.. Some of my driving takes me thru over hanging branches that will most likely scratch the paint off the top. Thinking about buying a black top.. NO idea of the cost yet... BUT I think a black longer top would look better that also covers the back seats..

Custome Carts (not a sponsor but at least one member on here works for them) makes a really nice long top in black that has the tracks pre-installed for you to hang sunbrella curtains from. I know at my shop we charge $300 for them, but that is because the freight really kills you (has to be shipped motor freight due to it's size).
