Looking For Comet 9039 Clutch Spring
After endless searching with no success, I'll ask you good people:
Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a spring for a Comet 9039 drive clutch? It's on a 1986 Yamaha G2, and the clutch is in great shape - except for the broken spring. I found a longer spring with the same diameter, but not nearly as stiff, which works, but there's very little torque - as expected. I'm hoping I won't have to replace the entire clutch (Not cheap!) because of a simple spring! If anyone has a used one for a reasonable price, I would be interested. Thanks! |

Re: Looking For Comet 9039 Clutch Spring
I have a mix of clutch spring for sale here. If you measure your spring (wire dia, length & dia) I will see if there is one in my springs. A pict would also help

Re: Looking For Comet 9039 Clutch Spring
That sounds about the size of a valve spring for a Big block chevy. You might check your local hot rod shop. Just an idea.

Re: Looking For Comet 9039 Clutch Spring
Thanks, Quad, I'll check that out. I think this one is longer than a valve spring, but it's been a while since I've ripped into a big block!
Cowboy, I'm not sure if the stock clutch has a spring in it - my parts catalog doesn't show one. I might be interested in the entire clutch, if it's rebuildable. Let me know what you'd take for it, and I'll send another M.O. Does anybody out there know if the Comet clutch is supposed to have a spring in it? This one was broken in 2 places, and the belt wear pattern looks like the sheave wasn't closing all the way. Maybe I should start a new thread... |
