Default 8 To 1 High Speed Gears Question!

Is there anyone here who has installed the 8 to 1 gear ratio in a G2 type rearend, and can tell me what mph gain there was over the stock ratio. First hand experience would be great, my combo is hard to figure using the formula. Thanks!

I stumbled on this for an electric G2:
Quote:
This gear set changes the gear ratio in your transaxle from approximately 12.5:1 down to 8:1. On most cars with stock tires, motor, and controller, it will increase your speed from appoximately 12-13 mph, up to about 20-21 mph.

Speed (mph) = (rpms of motor x radius of tire) / (gear ratio x 168

12.5: 1 Gear Ratio

12.857 mph = (3000 x 9) / (12.5 x 168 = (27,000 / 2,100)

8.0:1 Gear Ratio

20.089 mph = (3000 x 9) / (8 x 168 = (27,000 / 1,344)
Looks like about a 75% speed gain, you will also have a reduction in torque.

Thanks doug!
This is for a gas cart. So far I got 12 to 15mph gain from the parts supplier to a 34mph gain from a friend who should know the math.
I'm just looking to pickup a little speed, not alot! This may just have to be a trial and error thing. Hopfully without the error part.

If you're just looking for a little more speed, how about upping the RPM of the motor or a larger tire diameter?

there a little mod i know to get a little extra speed.your throttle cable is mounted to a bracket on the axle or gear box.take the bolt out holding the bracket.put 1" of spacer's on the bolt .put it back together this should put alot of tension on the cable.take it for a spin will make the engine rev higher

Look up the gear ratio on a '93 gas club car, I imagine it is same as yamaha or close. It had the single flathead engine, robin or whatever they used. Anyway I put HS gears in and it would do 28gps on the rev limiter. I did not gps before but imagine it did teens. Cart totally stock otherwise. So I would say roughly 10mph from what you get now depending on where your governor is.
