Cart just quit, can't charge
Hello,
I was coming home with a low charge and suddenly died. Towed home, plugged in charger, relay clicked, transformer hummed, no deflection on amp meter. I checked charging receptacle and battery voltage is 34.5. Reverse horn comes on when the switch is set to backwards but nothing else on the cart works. I do have some green crap on a couple of the battery connectors though. Could this be enough to cause my problem? It concerns me that the charger meter doesn't deflect and and this problem just happened suddenly. I have to believe the sudden stop and the charging problem are caused by the same problem but can't figure it out looking at the wiring diagram. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick in Surfside |

Re: Cart just quit, can't charge
Hello, what year and drive system is the cart?
The last 2 numbers of the manufactures code is the year, located inside the passenger side glove box, the 2004 and newer ezgos dont have a serial number plate in the box, they have a serial number sticker under the rear access panel behind the seat, and then on the driverside frame rail below the floor board, DCS will have a F&R lever behind the driver's knee and a run/tow switch on the enviromental cover on the controller. The backside of the f&R looks round like a hockey puck. PDS carts will have a Tow/Run switch with toggle switch for F&R on the dash SERIES carts will have a shift lever like the dcs cart down by your legs, but it will NOT have a tow/run switch. Also the actual F&R switch is in the corner by the controller and there is linkage from it to the lever in the center..... |

Re: Cart just quit, can't charge
You need to clean those battery cables and posts ASAP,maybe even replace those cables if they are to corroded. corrision in the cables cause resistence and that makes heat and causes failure.make sure you have distilled water in the batteries.

Re: Cart just quit, can't charge
Thanks for the quick reply. It is a 2003 series (f/r behind my knee, no run/tow switch). I've gone over the visible wiring and still haven't found any warts.

Re: Cart just quit, can't charge
Does the solenoid click when you press the gas? Are all of the corroded connections now clean and tight? I suppose it is possible you have blown the controller running it so low on volts?

Re: Cart just quit, can't charge
Hey guys, amazing what you (as in ME) find when you do what your're told. I found a bad battery cable (corroded/burned end). This also explains why my lights didn't work...it was between the 2 batteries that the lights are connected to. Duh! I'm off to my favorite local golf cart goodies store. I'll post when I've got the cable in and am charging.
Thanks you again for the prompt help. Rick in Surfside |

Re: Cart just quit, can't charge
I'm fixed and charging now. I watered the batteries about a month ago and noticed some green on this particular battery post but decided to just wait (yeah, I know...) and clean them all at once. Well, they're all cleaned now! Thanks again folks.
