Default Rebuild or BV24 swap?

I have a 1987 Marathon that is in need of a carb cleaning/rebuild/jetting. I already added a K&N filter pod and now she runs leaner. Would it be better to rebuild my stock carb or upgrade to the BV24 from the 1988 carts? Would this even be a bolt on modification? Id love more power but I dont want to fabricate all new linkage and stuff. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
