?correct charger OBC, or no OBC
As in my sig my cart is an IQ, I just realized that the charger that came with the cart is an 01 model 17930 power drive.
Is this the right charger? If it is not all is probably not bad since my obc is bad? |

That charger's fine. All the 48v Club Car ones are interchangable.

Re: ?correct charger OBC, or no OBC
It seems to be working I plugged it in last night and saw a reading as high as 59.6v. This morning (charger shuttoff during the night) the voltage was 50.6 or 51.6 I can't recall now.
I thought that the charger for the IQ was different than non IQ carts? |

When you measured 59.6v what was the current reading on the charger ammeter? |

That was measured on the battery posts. The reading on the ampmeter was at 5

On-charge (plugged into powered-up charger) should be at LEAST 56v. You're okay.
The chargers have minor differences, but function the same. |

Re: ?correct charger OBC, or no OBC
So this charger doesn't need the OBC?
So if I eliminate the obc (which is bad anyway) where should I hook the solenoid upto so that its not on when the key is left on. (presently I have it bypassed to the #6 neg terminal, when I turn the key on it comes on). Or does the OBC control something else? |

Re: ?correct charger OBC, or no OBC
I'm fairly new at this but what I have found out through problems of my own is that:
The OBC sends a ground to the charger (when charger plugged in) to pick up the charger control relay. It also monitors how much charge has been removed from the batteries during use and controls how much goes back in via the OBC silicon control rectifier. It also sends a 48 volt signal to the speed controller solenoid lockout circuit. However the OBC can be unplugged and by passed. Run a 48 volt pos from the key switch to the light blue wire going into pin 5 of the speed controller. Remember to unpug your charger before driving off. This protection will be removed without the OBC in circuit. Hope this works for you because I just completed this task on my cart yesterday and it works fine. |

Re: ?correct charger OBC, or no OBC
When the OBC senses that the charger is connected, it disables the cart's control system.. Not sure what all the OBC is tapped into on the IQ cars, but on my old 1996 48V series car it controlled the ground for the solenoid.. If the charger was connected, the solenoid ground was opened, disabling the cart..
