Default 2008 YDRE Cloud Energy overheating

I recently installed a 48(51.2)V Cloud Energy on my 2008 YDRE and am having overheating issues. The cart runs for about a minute and starts to loose speed then after about 3 minutes it shuts off and I can smell an electrical smell, no smoke. The motor is warm to the touch after it shuts itself off and after about 10 minutes it will run again with the same results.
I only replaced the battery and did not have this issue prior to replacing with the lithium. I stopped after the second test run resulted in the same as the first and have not had a good ride with the new battery.
Is this a controller issue or possibly a motor and did I induce the problem by adding the lithium battery? Thanks for the help.

The controller is shutting the cart off, the battery readouts all look normal.

Did this start happening shortly after the install of the battery?

Sounds like the battery isn't tripping but just asked because perhaps something didn't get tight after this install if it just started happening after the battery swap.

It seems to be a result of the battery swap; from deep cycle's to lithium. I triple checked all the connections, it's only a few, and all were tight. Curious if the controller is acting up or if there is any way I can check it to see.

I am not real familiar with Yama carts. There are a few people on here that have them. Hopefully they can chime in soon.

Look at the end of your motor. If you have the original Hitachi motor, then you have one that is most likely failing.

When Hitachi built the motor they left very little tolerance between the brushes, and the brush holders, causing them to stick for a variety of reasons. Carbon buildup, and corrosion, can cause them to bind preventing the brush from properly seating on the commutator.
Replacing your battery probably just compounded an issue that was already there due to the increase of available voltage and current.

You have a couple of options. Replace the motor, or have the motor repaired/rebuilt. If you are a handy person and have a press, you can take the motor apart and recondition your brushes. I generally find them to be in good condition, just stuck.
If you really love your cart, a new motor is the best option.

The Moric controller that is in your cart, if it is stock, is a known point of failure as well on the YDRE's, but your issue sounds motor to me.

Thanks for the input, I will clean up/replace the brushes and see if that fixes it. I will check back in, really appreciate the reply.

Why do you need a press?

Sometimes the bearings can be a bit stubborn. If you have the motor apart would be dumb not to change the bearings as well.
