Default Cloud Energy GFA48V-105AH review.

I just wanted to put out my thoughts on the Cloud Energy GFA48V-105AH. This is a new'ish model that is 48V 105AH with a 250amp BMS. Starting from the beginning, I ordered it from Amazon, and the shipping was faster than expected. It took 5 days to reach me on the east coast from the west coast, even though the expected delivery date was 11 days after purchase. When the box arrived, it was packed very nicely using the kind of packing material that is the same consistency of a pool noodle. Everything had its own place and there was no damage. Very nicely done.

They really seem to be take in account what golf cart consumers are looking for when building their products. The 250amp BMS with constant discharge 250A (400A for 35 seconds, 600A 3 seconds) is added bonus for my 400amp Alltrax Controller and D&D motor. They say they have a 3C discharge rate, but who really knows if that is true. This is the one with the ABS plastic shell, unlike others who glue theirs together, this one is screwed together like the metal shell ones. They have little plastic covers that go over the screw heads. The terminals where you attach power cable has 2 screw holes each for both positive & negative connections which is nice if you are attaching a lot of cables. My only complaint is that the battery doesn't have an on/off switch.

Installation is pretty straightforward, on my Drive2, even though I just put it in the battery tray and used the ratchet straps tie downs to secure it.When the weather warms up, I will remove some of the partitions in the battery tray, modify the existing battery hold down to work with the Cloud Energy battery. The display cable more than long enough to put just about anywhere on the cart. I will reply back with pictures when I finish the install.

Performance is really good. According to the bluetooth app, I was pulling 219 amps from a dead stop just above the base of a very steep hill in my campground, and it pulled nicely with speed increasing all the way to the top. The instant power is so nice, pushing the cart to about 25mph, which is more than I would need.

So far, with just a weekend of driving it, really pushing it to see if the battery would let me down, it came away with zero problems.

Very impressed with the product they are putting out, and hoping they stay around for a long time.

Thanks for the review. I am staring at the battery in my amazon cart right now about to pull the trigger. It's $999 for the 48V 100AH, 200A BMS. I almost bought it 2 weeks ago for about $200 more.

I had originally purchased a Mosasaur battery, but it got "lost" in shipping. I'm glad it got lost, as after I purchased it it, and was waiting for it to arrive, is when I started to find the negative reviews of it. I have yet to see anything bad about Cloud Energy, so that makes me feel a lot better, and glad I dodged a bullet with the Mosasaur.

I finally got the final install completed this weekend. Once I removed the FLA batteries, my plan became more apparent. Instead of removing all of the raised battery seprators, I just took out the part where the battery would sit. Doing it this way, it gives the battery somewhere to sit, and stops the battery from moving side to side. Instead of using the ratchet straps to hold down the battery, I trimmed down the FLA battery hold down brackets. My measurements were off so, i had a 1/4" gap between the battery hold down and the battery, so I just ending up putting some thick foam to fill the gap. I will make new hold down brackets when I get the time.
