Default Drive 2 Motor to Transaxle gasket?

Hi all,

In addition to last weeks re-wire and lithium upgrade....I was getting a scraping/grinding noise under load, both acceleration and deceleration.

Lifted the cart - wheel bearing seem OK (no play) - no brake drag
Opened the differential drain pan - muddy stinky soup. Absolutely disgusting in there.
Rinsed cleaned, refilled and drove for a week (~40 miles)
Reopened yesterday and still smells awful and has grit.

So...on a cyber Monday 30% off special, I ordered a new transaxle.
My question is: Is there no gasket between the motor and transaxle? I have not cracked the old one as the cart is still in service.
I don't see one in the diagrams. Just the oil seal on the input shaft. In my case, prior to the flush, there was a lot of "residue" at this junction, a mix of dust and oil/grime.

If anyone needs some used Drive2 rear-end parts, let me know! I'll probably crack the case once it's out to see what was worn and why the fluid is so swampy.

I'll post some pictures of the install once it's underway.

If anyone has other info/advice, let me know!

There is not. There is an oil seal on the input shaft.

I would like to see pictures of the transaxle once you get the covers off.

Well, after three diff fluid changes, and two cleanings, the fluid is still milky brown. And more metal on the magnet.
Brand new axle/diff unit installed two days ago.
So quiet and smooth!

Pics as promised.

I know this is super old. But could you tell us where you sourced a replacement transaxle? I have a 2019 Yamaha Drive 2 with the same symptoms and think it’s time.

Just in process of completing my 2015 Drive 1. There was no gasket under the cover of my transaxle and I'm guessing the gear oil had never been changed prior. It looked like silicone from the factory...Ordered the gasket though, for when I put it back together on Friday.
