Default Mystery wire on a g9 golf cart

Does anybody know where the other end of this ground wire is supposed to be attached? This end is currently connected to the battery negative cable connected to the rear of the starter but gets very hot when you try to crank the engine and I'm trying to find out why. The wiring harness is brand new and I don't want to destroy it. Thanks.
