Pro's and Vets - Turn back the clock
OK - Pretty new to the site still and I've read so much my head spins. There are clearly some seriously experienced guys (and gals?) on this board with so much knowledge - i really appreciate your willingness to help noobs like me.
So lets play the "if you knew then what you know now" game, if you would. Turn the clock back. Lets pretend you just bought a well-used cart, but one that was in good shape. Batteries are fine, everything works as it should. No major damages, etc. It's just used. What are some of the maintenance items you would do to the cart? What are the little things that you've learned that need to be cleaned, tightened, oiled, etc. I"m particularly interested in maybe some lesser known areas/jobs/tasks (for example, I see a zerk and it gets grease, I see a differential and it gets fluid. What are the less obvious areas to address?). I"m not after speed mods or anything (yet), just basic stuff to keep a good cart going. Oh - and pictures are always good! |

Put good cables and a battery meter on it Clean and coat all the cable ends & tighten anything that rattles, that's it ..... it's a golf cart

Re: Pro's and Vets - Turn back the clock
What Scotty said.
I've only been into carts a bit over a year, but what I did for a living before I retired blends into carts fairly well. One of the best tidbits of advice I've ran across is to establish a monthly battery maintenance routine and after you clean, water and tighten, toss a $10.00 bill in a Mason Jar. That way you'll have a good start on the price of a new set of batteries when they have to be replaced. |
