Default TXT DCS Bad Controller or ITS or ?

Hello,

My ezgo txt DCS (96 I think) suddenly stopped working about a year ago. I tried trouble shooting it then but got busy and moved on to other projects. I have finally decided to get the cart running again and was about to buy an Alltrax controller for it but thought I should probably look at it one more time before dropping the $$ on the Alltrax.

96 Ezgo TXT DCS
The cover was off the controller and the original tow/run switch was water damaged (I'm guessing this is when/where the damage occurred...)
New tow/run switch
New ITS sensor
New battery cables
All connections clean and tight

I followed the trouble shooting guide and heres where I'm at:
  • Battery pack voltage is 37V (charging now but I don't think thats the issue..)
  • Solenoid clicks and there is 37V on either side of the large posts (according to the trouble shooting guide I should replace the solenoid?)
  • ITS White wire at controller is all over the place (but always low) sometimes I only get 1.1mv with no change pedal up or down, and other-times it reads .25-.35V pedal fully up, .41-.6V pedal fully depressed.
  • Sometimes one wheel will begin to spin ever so slightly with the pedal fully depressed but it is not repeatable.
  • There is also a high pitched wine coming from the cart even when the pedal is not depressed, it barley audible but definitely there.
  • I opened up the controller (I couldn't help myself)- no visible damage or burnt smells but it was remanufactured in 2001...

What do you guys think? Time for a new alltrax controller or am I missing something simple?? I will probably order a solenoid tonight so I can rule that out as well but I hate just throwing parts at something without knowing exactly whats wrong...

Thanks in advance!

Let your batteries fully charge, using JohnnieB's chart [below] as a guideline 37v for a 36v cart is only 70% charged.

There is usually a two pin molex connector between the ITS and controller can get wet and corroded and cause all kind of problems. I had this problem years ago. Check this out. May be your problem.

I know that you are looking at the Alltrax which is a good idea but if you decide that you would want a replacement Curtis 1206SX. I have one for sale $125. It came out of the same cart as yours which I just upgraded.

Best of luck in solving your issue!

I charged the batteries and re-checked everything. No real changes...

Battery pack voltage =37.8V
multimeter + lead on white wire at controller, - on neg battery battery pack: 0.22V pedal up, 0.63V pedal down (new ITS). 0.20V pedal up, 0.60V pedal down (old ITS). One wheel spins very slowly with both ITS units. (makes me think ITS is fine)

I checked and cleaned the connector between the ITS and the controller (mine had 4 pins) but that did not make any difference.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I just wanted to follow up since I got the cart running again incase it can help anyone else out.

A new Alltrax controller got it running again. I did waste some money unnecessarily on another ITS unit and new solenoid before pulling the trigger on the Alltrax.
