EX Go wheel hub spinning
Driver side rear wheel hub keeps wearing out, last one was installed less than 3 months ago. Why? Need more torque on the castle nut?

Re: EX Go wheel hub spinning
most likely.....how much torque are you putting on the nut?? are you actually using a torque wrench?? you should be putting between 95 to 140 ft-lbs on the castle nut.

Re: EX Go wheel hub spinning
I just use a 17mm socket with a 10 ich breaker bar for the tires. I have a 3/8 inch torque wrench but need to get a socket for the castlenut.

Re: EX Go wheel hub spinning
3/8 might be to small, If you need a 1/2" one you can rent one from any of the box auto parts stores for the job and then return.
They usually charge you for the cost of the tool and then just refund you when you return it. It really needs to be torqued to make them last and I would lean toward the upper end of the 130 (foot pounds) range and then forward to get the cotter pin holes to align, don't loosen to get the cotter in. |

Re: EX Go wheel hub spinning
you can buy a BEAM type torque wrench for that kind of stuff that is plenty good enough....and they are very inexpensive. about $25 and believe it or not, very accurate!

New hub installed and torqued to 110 lbs. Hope this works.. Thanks for all responses. BTW, Amazon is half the price than my local golf cart dealer, for the same item code. Lessons learned by me.

Re: EX Go wheel hub spinning
Hopefully this resolves your issue. If it doesn't, you may also want to look into an after-market heavy duty hub. Textron has a known issue with soft OEM hubs and if you've modified your cart for additional torque and/or have substantial weight on it over hills or broken terrain that may also be the issue. I'm constantly replacing spun out Cushman hubs and I know a lot of people have the same issue with EZGO carts with the aforementioned characteristics. Just keep in mind that if you're operating the cart under conditions that are causing failure you'd much rather replace a spun out hub than a tore up axle. Something has to give and you want it to be the hub.
