Default G1 Yamaha won’t start

New here, great site. I took a G1 (J31 model) which didn’t run from a buddy. Got it home and replaced all the small stuff first (cleaned carb, air filter, fuel filter, spark plug, fresh gas and a good battery.) it would start running off the starter but engine wouldn’t crank. After some more inspection/testing I ended up buying a top end kit and new crank seals. Top end included jug, piston assembly, rings, and gaskets. Replaced all those and it still won’t crank. Actually has the same 90psi compression as it did with the bad top end.? Took exhaust off and tried starting and no crank. Def getting spark as I took spark plug out of head, put the spark plug back in the spark plug wire then tried to crank and could see the spark plug was firing. Took hose from fuel pump to carb, off carb, and fuel spits out when trying to crank. So it has spark and fuel and air.

Any ideas where I should look next? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Does the starter turn the engine pretty good or does it limp along?

First, thanks for reaching out. As for starter, It seems a little weak I guess. When I was trying to crank it yesterday I was thinking if the starter would spin faster maybe that would help.? It supplies a constant revolution speed though from what I can tell just watching /listening to it. Would a starter not spinning quite fast enough cause the motor to not even try to crank? Should I remove it and try to get it tested somewhere? Or is there multimeter testing I could do on it?

If you remove the belt and then try and start it, it should spin like crazy maybe. If that's the case, the brushes definitely need changed in it. It's a very easy job.

Okay I’ll check to see if it spins faster without the belt on it. I did watch a video on how to change out the brushes which did look fairly simple.

Took belt off and starter did spin faster I believe. So took it off thinking the brushes were worn, but they look fine. Put some premixed fuel in the fuel line going into carb. Still not cranking.?

When you say it's not cranking, I assume you are meaning that it's turning over but it's not starting correct? Can you post a video to youtube or streamable?

Yes that’s correct. Turn key and Press pedal, I can hear solenoid click, starter starts spinning. And sure I will take a video of it.
