Yamaha G2E throttle sticks at full throttle

When putting the unit in gear, it surges into low throttle. Once the pedal is pushed down, it sticks at full throttle. The motor seems to always be carrying some sort of load as long as the key is on. Low load until pedal is pushed, then it stays full throttle even when brake is applied. The brakes will stop it but still pulling full strength until it's put in neutral or turned off.

I have a 1988 model G-2 and when this sort of thing starts happening it is usually a result of the contacts on the speed control arm and the board contacts being burnt and trying to stick together. Sometimes they can be cleaned and polished nice enough to re use but usually they require replacement. Also check to be sure the arm is making a good square alignment with the contractors on the board.

Are you referring to the arm and board contacts on the potentiometer? The arm is not sticking.
