Default G2 won’t run slow

I have an 89 g2 that ran out of oil last fall. I just finished rebuilding the engine and installed it. It ran fine last year before it seized but now when it starts it just want to jump the Rpms up so I can’t drive slow. The throttle doesn’t return to the stop on the carb unless I pull it back. There was nothing touched in the governor so I don’t know what it could be. I put .050 pistons in and a new crank. No real mods to the engine.
Any ideas would be great.

My G2 has a return spring on the carb. Yours seems to be missing.
I can't pull it up right now but it is #11 on the diagram.
Throttle stop spring - part # J38-14133-00-00

The spring is there. By pulling on the governor I can have the carb at idle but it still doesn’t seem to run smooth. I don’t have much hair left and this is making me pull the rest out.

It seems that the pedal cable is holding the governor arm and carb cable open.
See if you can remove tension from the pedal cable or disconnect it to see if the carb will close.
Most times when this happens abruptly a bracket has been bent somehow.
Might need to readjust pedal cable.
Did you make any adjustments to the governor arm and pivot shaft on the transaxle?

That was my next thing to do. I didn’t do any adjusting to it and not sure how anything would have gotten bent but stranger things have happened.
