1998 Club Car DS 48V OBC bypass question
I have 98 DS 48v and I'm about to put a lithum in it and just charge the battery with aftermarket charger that connects straight to the terminals. aI want to know how and if I should bypass the OBC. I watched videos on YouTube but did not see a video that shows my connector style(which is a 3 terminal, not 6) on my OBC. Any help will appreciated.
This is only my 2nd post.. I think I uploaded 2 photos. 1 is of my style OBC and the other is my serial number. |

Not that you should...you MUST !
Otherwise I have read that the OBC will render the cart inoperative after it does not detect a charge cycle after so many uses........ |

Re: 1998 Club Car DS 48V OBC bypass question
If it were me, I would remove the OBC and bypass it cleanly since it is a useless piece of gear where you're going. The OBC can prevent your cart from running - which you don't want. It's main purpose was to control the charger that came with the cart.

Ok then that's what I'll do. I understand what to do with the negative and gray wire but what about the rest of them?

Re: 1998 Club Car DS 48V OBC bypass question
There are a bunch of "How to's" in this forum. I am a Yamaha guy but I have helped a couple Club Car guys do stuff like this. If I remember correctly, you have to make one connection to make the cart run without the OBC. And you have to connect the charge connector directly to the battery negative instead of it going through the OBC.

Re: 1998 Club Car DS 48V OBC bypass question
I converted my 95 DS to lithium about two months ago and removed it all. I took factory charge port out completely and wired the onboard charger to that location by making a plate and a waterproof socket. You have to ground the negative side of the solenoid so it goes. (New wire is not shown, this is all just crap I removed. )

Re: 1998 Club Car DS 48V OBC bypass question
Thanks Tom.. that thread is definitely what I needed. Mnealuf thanks for the diagram, it will be a life saver when I start on the conversion tomorrow. I'll definitely be considering putting it a waterproof socket also. I would love to just have the charger on-board and just need a extension cord wherever I go. Thanks guys maybe one day I can return the favor.

You're welcome!
BTW, this item works great and replaces the original charging port perfectly. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GLCXSBQ...roduct_details Last edited by Tom47; 10-21-2021 at 10:41 PM.. Reason: Added link |
