36 volt lithium converersion
Hello, have a 98 36 volt club car in need of batts. Came across a 50 amh 36 volt battery out of a chevy volt. Seems like this would work. Have been advised put in a off/on switch. Does any one know if existing charger would work or what charger I would need? Thanks.

Re: 36 volt lithium converersion
First off, 50AH is really not adequate especially at 36Volts. You do need a different charger and you need a BMS. Not sure what you mean by off/on switch.

On off so zero drain when not in use, batt comes with bms. What kind of range should I expect? 10 miles flat land sufficient.

Re: 36 volt lithium converersion
You should get 10 miles out of it but not much more. That's assuming that your Volt batteries are not too worn out. That's the down side of using Volt or Leaf cells. They come out of scrapped packs - either from wrecked cars (better) or packs that have been replaced (worse). I have two carts with Leaf cells and they are probably only giving me half of rated capacity - which is ok for me - and one is going on 5 years in my cart. I get 20 miles range playing golf. These are 120AH cells probably putting out around 60-80.

How did you acquire new Volt cells? You said it was "out of a chevy volt" in your first post. That doesn't sound new to me.

Interesting. They are 2017 so they have been sitting around for four years or so. Should be good though. Price is right.

Re: 36 volt lithium converersion
I’d give some consideration to take the opportunity to upgrade to 48v. You’ll need a new charger with the lithium anyway…. The 36v motor will do just fine on 48v.
