Can you use your voltmeter on both and see which is carrying 12V when the key is turned on?

Correct and this is your problem. You can easily verify this by switching the red/blue wire.
  • Yellow - (+)48v from battery (appears correct in your image)
  • Green - (+)48v/36v switched input from keyswitch. When you pass 36-48v (+) to this wire, it enables 12v(+) output from the red wire.
  • Black - (-) battery ground
  • Red - (+)12v switched output. This is only live when the green wire receives 36-48v
  • Blue - (+) 12v constant output. This should output 12v regardless of keyswitch. This is what would likely kill your batteries if you're not careful because it's always on.

You can test all of this easily with a multimeter too. Just touch the blue and ground the other terminal and see if you get 12v. Touch the red and you should not until your keyswitch is properly connected.

You need to find something keyswitched that's 48v. Off hand, under the cupholders there are 3 bundled wires with tape on them that I have no clue what they do...but I think I remember 1 or 2 of them being keyswitched 48v.

You could maybe hook to one of those. Just test with your multi to confirm the voltage and that it is on/off with the key.

Glad I could help! No problem, just a fun, weird hobby I've picked up.

Just make a new thread and me or somebody else will try to answer!

For some reason, people are thread-shy...just post whatever and everyone likes to help.

Good morning, just to piggy back I am installing basically the same fuse lock and reducer. The green wire which is the "turn on" for the reducer that is key enabled needs to have 36-48v to turn on the reducer correct? We cannot use a 12v key accessory power to turn on reducer via the green wire.

you mentioned the wires under cup holder do you happen to know which one, I will hit them with volt dc meter but just to make hunting quick lol.

I also was curious for the 48 volt remote turn on wire what gauge wire would you recommend, was trying not to bring a larger 10gauge wire.

Thanks in advance
