My First Weld
not quite as awesome as the youtube demo posted a few years back, but i think it looks aight for a n0ob.
 ignore the mess on the left... that was my dad's attempts at gap filling. you can see where i started and stopped a few times... i was trying to adjust my mask so it wasn't so dark, but i kept turning the pivot tension knob thinking it was level adjust.  doh! so what yall think? decent or total garbage? -sj ohh yea, welder was a hobart 140 with the included flux core wire. |

not bad for starting out. i wish i could find someone that would work with me on welding. i had to teach my self and it shows most of the time. i havent had a weld break yet. i just want my welding to be uniform and clean looking.
but, give it time and dont rush your self. |

You will have to re balance those lawn mower blades.
Keep at it not bad to start out. You will now become the sanford and son on trash day grabbing any thing metal on its way to the land fill. |

Better than most of mine too.
 I did just find a way to help improve my welds. Our facilities guy suggested I use some "tip dip" with my flux core welder. WAY less spattering & boogers with it. And keeps the tip & cup a lot cleaner.  I found it at Home Depot for like $6. |

I keep a quartz flood light close to where I weld.
Place it so it doesn't shine inside the helmet. |

really good for a first try, especially with flux core. lot better than mine.
thx for the tip airman, will look for it. and dooms you are right on with lite. i sometimes have a heck of a time getting a good look 'specially with biifocals |

thanks for the compliments & suggestions guys! i'll check out the "tip dip" and break out the halogen. seeing what the h*** was going on was definitely the toughest part!
any tips on re-balancing these blades? mowers developed a bit of shimmy. -sj |

Toss the flux core and go with normal wire and a mig gas. A little more expensive but worth it. Couple of tips are to make sure the metal is clean and practice practice practice. Below is a link to a great site for more welding info
