Default Can controller be tested without a motor?

Was given a 2006 Precedent recently... new Trojan T-1275s yesterday, no go...
Tested motor, open Armature....
Can I test the speed controller without the motor?
Trying to figure out my options regarding upgrades and dollars!!
Any assistance would be most appreciated, thankyou.

Seems I read that you can connect a light bulb to the A-1 & A-2 leads and if the controller is working the bulb will get brighter when you push the throttle. Don't forget to disconnect the batteries when setting this up.

If you want to upgrade, the controller is the weak link. You’re limited for motor options with a stock controller. Most upgraded motors will require a better controller.

Is the motor armature open or shorted? If you’re testing at the posts on the outside of the motor and get no continuity, that could just mean the brushes are worn out which is a relatively easy fix. On the other hand, if the A post is shorted to the motor case that usually lets the magic smoke out of a stock controller.

This is a 2006 Precedent... does the motor have brushes, or is it brushless?

Pretty much all golf cart motors have brushes.
Very few have brushless AC motors.
Besides that, there are no Armature connections on a brushless motor. The brushes are what make the connection from the terminal to the armature in a standard DC motor.
