Default Cables getting hot

I have a 1987 Electric 4-wheel Marathon Golf cart, when I ride it for 15 or 20 mins, the Battery's Cables get hot, and some of the other ones do too, what could be causing this???

Make sure every connection is clean and tight.
Also, the cables could be undersized.
Has the cart been upgraded in any way?

As stated if the cales are getting hot I would check the connections and verify the correct wire being used. Heat is a sign of resistance or excesive draw. High voltage wire is usually heavy stranded instead of fine strands. Amps are carried on the surface of wire where volts are carried on the cross section of the strands of wire. Thats why electrical wiring in your house at 120/220 volts is generally single strand because it is designed to carry volts verses automotive wiring is multy stranded to carry amps. Golf carts are low voltage high amperage. The most suitable wire is fine stranded copper wire of suitable size. Most use 2 gage or larger. I replaced the wires on my 72volt GEM car with 1/0 fine stranded oxygen free copper wire.
