Default Top End Replacement

Took my '89 EZ-Go to the shop and they say I need a new top end...5lbs of compression and should be 100lbs minimum according to the shop. They want $800 to replace the cylinder, piston, rings, etc... I'm considering doing it myself and...found a cylinder replacement kit for $206 online (has cylinder, pistons, rings, wrist pin, clips, and gaskets). Has anyone here taken on this project? Any advice? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Hello and welcome to BGW!

I have replaced the top end of my 77' ezgo, which has the same top end as your 89'. I documented most of it with pictures. Here are the pics: http://good-times.webshots.com/album/556505652yzoPkI

It was a very simple rebuild! I just took my time. The use of proper tools helped a lot!! All the bolts are metric and a torque wrench is a must. I have a top end rebuild manual in PDF format if you are interested. It includes pictures and torque specs. PM me your email and I will send it to you if you want. Also, feel free to ask me and questions regarding the rebuild!

2 strokes are EASY to build. If the shop thinks that 100 lbs is good, then don't go back there! 140# is about what you want...
