Need help with charger question
Hi, all. I just bought my first golf car, a 2002 Yamaha G19, with lift kit, 22" tires, alum. box, and custom paint. It has Trojan T875 batteries. The dealer sent me home with a DPI charger. [no manuals for anything] My first charge seemed to be taking too long, so I started to wonder if something was wrong. I called DPI and ended up speaking to the owner. After checking to see exactly which mode my model was, he told me that this charger was for US Battery batteries only! He said it could damage my Trojans! NOT happy with my dealer. The next day, I went back to the dealer. The dealer said they had never heard of any such problem, but we showed them the very 1st page of the manual, [which I had downloaded from DPI] It showed that Trojans had to be a mode 2 charger. So he gave me a Yamaha SCR 481717 charger. Now for my questions: Is this charger safe for all batteries? Any chance of it hurting the Trojans? Anyone know where I can get a copy of the manual? I know MAC makes this charger, but not much else. Thanks for any and all input.

Re: Need help with charger question
Welcome to BGW !!!
Nice looking Cart Good thing you are doing your homework... It can take 4 or 5 hours to charge up a healthy pack. Well the Yamaha charger you have now is safe for your cart & all 48v carts without onboard computer. The only reservation I have with that charger is it is a 17 amp max charger. It won't juice them as much as some of the stronger 21 - 25 amp models. Good news is it is a 3 stage charger . Downside is it is all idiot lights and no gauge to read what it is doing? The cart looks nice. I'm sure you paid for a good charger! If I was you I would go back and tell him you want a Lester model 09695. The charge is the life blood of the battery pack. So in my opinion, a weak charger sooner or later results in a weak pack. Just my 2 cents? Good Luck |

Re: Need help with charger question
Thanks for the reply. Won't the Yamaha charger charge it just as completly, maybe just take longer to do it? And yeah, I really like the car. I bought it to help me out around the house due to a stroke I had last year. It's also a LOT of fun!

Re: Need help with charger question
If he gave you a yamaha charger I'm sure it will be fine. The yamaha charger is just that...a Yamaha charger. There are better chargers on the market.
on a side note: I have never heard of such a thing either. Not saying it isn't possible, just never heard of it. The newer chargers have different modes and for the most part are better than a transformer based charger. |
