Strong rear ends?
Hey guys,
I used to hang around these forums quite a bit, but have been out of the loop for a few years. I messed with a couple gas cars when I was in high school (lifted 87 E-Z-GO and early 90's CC with 500cc arctic cat twin), but I am wanting to dabble in a sparky. In December I will be graduating from Iowa State in Mechanical Engineering. I am currently trying to put together a proposal to build an electric hauler for shops around campus. This will be for a senior design class so I and an undetermined team will be fabricating most of the vehicle, but I would like to buy parts where possible to speed up the project. Ideally, I would like to use a golf car rear end to simplify the assembly of the power train. I know people are standing carts up on end all the time, so I believe there is quite a bit of strength in at least some of them. Without going into a war of the brands, who makes the strongest rear ends? Are some of the utility carts using rear ends that are any stronger than their fairway cruising counterparts? Hydraulic brakes are a plus, but I am assuming that's going to be up to me to add. |

Re: Strong rear ends?
Varied opinions to be sure but some may suggest the Ford 9" rear usually found in Taylor Dunn industrial carts.
Good luck with the project. |

Re: Strong rear ends?
The Grazziano made Club Car rears are super stout if you want a regular golf cart rear end. Robby at Plum Quick has them for sale for $130.00 complete with brakes. Lots of GC racers have run them with motors on 144 volts plus. Here's the link....
