For any 2pg owners with a leaking differential....
A few months ago, I started to notice oil spots on the driveway after my kids would park my Marathon. I quickly found that the leak was actually coming from the front of the differential, where the clutch attaches (Ive got the ol' dana diff).
To make a horribly long and painful story very short. I have found a good fix for this issue. During my search for a solution, I noticed that several other BGW members were experiencing the same thing, but the threads were left open-ended. I'm not sure if they found a fix and didn't post, just plain gave up, or are still searching for a solution. This is what worked for me. Hopefully it will help someone else out. |

Re: For any 2pg owners with a leaking differential....
It initially appeared that the seal was just plain missing. Which I thought was odd. However, after I removed 30 years of crud from the diff, I did in-fact find a seal. It was worn really bad. Pulling it out took a little work, as it was comfy where it was at. But after a little prying, and tapping, it came out. The pics below are before removal, after removal.

Ok you replaced the seal. Sorry. Your second post wasn't visible right away.

Re: For any 2pg owners with a leaking differential....
I had several recommendations for Ezgo seal # 14113-G1. I also had a recommendation for National Seal # 472164. So I ordered the 14113-G1 from a sponsor as it was readily available. I then decided to shop around locally for the NS 472164, just for fun. I took the old seal to Oreillys in town and they looked up the number stamped on the side (#17387). Sure enough, they had it in stock, and wouldn't you know, a quick cross reference of the number on my seal brought up the National Seal # 472164! So I picked it up. Figured I would add it to my stock if I ended up using the 14113-G1 I had ordered. UPS showed up the following day, and brought the the 14113-G1.

Re: For any 2pg owners with a leaking differential....
The red seal is the National Seal 472164 from Oreillys. The other is the Ezgo 14113-G1.
I did notice that the National Seal had a slightly larger rubber seal than the Ezgo seal, but the ezgo seal's rubber seemed more dense/firm. Nevertheless, I opted to install the National seal, figuring that if it fixed the problem, great, but if it didn't, I could always fall back on the ezgo seal as a backup. The install was pretty straight forward, but it did take a little coaxing. The fit was really tight. In total, it took me about 20 minutes of light tapping to get it into place. Been installed for days, and the cart has been used about 6 hours since the seal swap. Not a single drop. To summarize: NATIONAL SEAL #472164..... OR.... EZGO SEAL #14113-G1 BIG thanks to Racin161 for sticking with me on this issue. Great advice. Last edited by frodrummer; 04-09-2013 at 08:51 AM.. Reason: ... |

By the way, I haven't figured out how to post photos intermittently between paragraphs yet, so I apologize for the chopped up posts.
