To paint or not to paint the aluminum frame
The aluminum frame has some corrosion where the battery tray leaked acid onto it. I hit it with a wire wheel and used Eagle 1 Aluminum Etching spray. I prefer to leave it as is. I've seen a lot of rebuilds painting the aluminum frame black. But, would you paint it if it is needed/recommended?

Re: To paint or not to paint the aluminum frame
I had some to the same problems on my old 1996 DS Series cart. I removed all the batteries and painted the frame in the battery area with Pittsburg acupan paint. It is a 2 part epoxy that is resistant to just about everything. I had used it on my garage floor 20 yr ago and it still looks good, even after spilling acid, dragging auto lifts and jacks, etc.
When I sold the cart a couple of mounts ago it still looked very good. Acid corrosion would wash off and it looked very good. I am sure that there are others out there just as good. A little work goes a long way. |
