Default 1996 DS Series Controller?

My friend has a friend with the same model cart. So they hooked up his charger to test it and it seems to work perfectly. Friend #2's charger exhibits the same issue when hooked up to Friend #1's cart. Friend #1's charger works fine on Friend #2's cart.

At this point, I believe it is safe to say it is NOT the charger.

It appears, however, that the cart is getting some kind of "trickle" charge as he is able to use the cart still as long as he lets it charge 24 hours or so.

If this is the controller, where would a good place be to purchase a new one? And which one should he purchase?

Thanks....

The charging amperage is produced by the remote charger. The charge rate and duration is controller by the on board computer. The controller has nothing to do with this process.

However, the best controller package deals are at cartsunlimited.net

So that means the issue is with the OBC. I just assumed they were one and the same. So does Cartsunlimited sell the OCB as well?

Resetting the Club Car On board computer - reset the OBC

To reset the OBC the following must be done in this order:
If no Tow/Run Switch then skip that step

• Key Switch to Off
• Forward/Reverse to Neutral
• Tow/Run Switch to Tow
• Disconnect the Battery NEGATIVE (–) wire from the Battery Minus terminal on the battery pack.
• Put the Tow/Run to Run
• Forward/Reverse Switch to Reverse
• Key Switch to On
• Lock the throttle pedal down

The reverse buzzer will sound and go off in about 30
seconds. Leave the cart like that for 5 min to cause the
OBC to reset.

To reconnect the OBC back into the system:
• Key Switch to Off
• Forward/Reverse Switch to Neutral
• Tow/Run switch to Tow
• Reconnect the Batt – wire to the battery minus terminal on the battery pack.

plug charger in and see if it kicks on ... if not OBC is bad

Default 1996 DS Series OBC Issues

Update:

I performed the OBC reset as described. It was a success! Or so we thought. Immediately after resetting the OBC, the charger worked perfectly. The cart charged up great.

However, the next day he used the cart for 9 holes and when he went and plugged the charger in, it acts just like it did before we reset the OBC.

We haven't tried resetting it again, but if this keeps doing the same thing, would that be a good indication that the OBC is bad?

If so, where is a good place to purchase a replacement OBC?

Thanks.

Is the negative battery cable going thru the OBC?

I'm not really sure what you're asking. The cart has not been modified and has been working fine up until very recently. What do you suspect?

The OBC is an off white-l colored box behind the batteries near the controller.
The negative main cable should go through the hole in the OBC.
It senses the electrical current that way...
