Ezgo Driven clutch free spin?
Thanks in advance to anyone or everyone that can help me narrow down my issue. While driving my 2000ish Ezgo the cart just slowed down and stopped going. After having 3 eight year olds push me to my buddies house we inspected the belt and it appeared to be stretched. Once I got the cart home I took the belt off and noticed the cart was in gear yet I was able to spin the driven clutch freely without it moving the cart. I rolled the cart and watched the driven clutch move so I assume the tranny is ok but in gear I didn’t think I would be able to just free spin the driven clutch. Can anyone tell me if that is normal and when the belt arrives I’ll be ok or am I looking at at destroyed clutch or worse?

Re: Ezgo Driven clutch free spin?
Sounds like either a stripped Clutch or a stripped Output Shaft, but to be safe go ahead and pull the bolt that holds the Driven Clutch on the Transaxle - if it's spinning freely the clutch should pop right off and let You inspect everything. I'm guessing that when the cart stopped going the engine was still revving freely - pull the driven and take a few pics, someone will def help You out

Re: Ezgo Driven clutch free spin?
Iv seen the splines in the clutch strip out it's only aluminum and input shaft is steal so likely will be needing new clutch

Thank you both for replying. Should I try the new better or just rip it apart? If I pull it apart I will add pics. Thanks again!

Re: Ezgo Driven clutch free spin?
Check that the splines in the wheel hubs are not stripped before tearing anything down. put the brakes on and turn the driven clutch while in gear. If one of the hub nuts turns then it is a stripped hub/brake drum.

Re: Ezgo Driven clutch free spin?
I changed the brake pads last week when I bought the cart and the plumes were ok. Unless you are talking about on the tranny side?

Re: Ezgo Driven clutch free spin?
if the axle nuts were not tightened to specs one of the hubs could have stripped, a very common thing to happen.

Re: Ezgo Driven clutch free spin?
This is why i suggested to look there first, If you have disassembled them recently, you needed to make sure the washers were replaced correctly and the nut torqued up properly otherwise any movement between the hub and splines will wear them out in no time at all. I also add antiseize to the splines when refitting the hubs/drums. As stated above, this is a very common issue and i see it all the time on buggies and also some of the grass machinery i work on.
