Default EH29c engine lots of white smoke

Hey guys. I'm new to the forums and kinda new to engines.

I've bought a used Ezgo 2003 txt and everything is great except for the white smoke pouring out of the engine. As well as smoke, the engine doesn't like running; you need to play with the choke to keep it going, but it does still drive. I did a compression test and one cylinder is at 135psi and the other is at 80 psi. Could this be caused by bad rings? If not, then what?

Thanks!

when you say lots of smoke and the low compression on one cylinder sounds like it could be piston rings on that side

but it could be valve seals and a valve adjustment! I would check this first .
since its easy to do with engine in cart took my under 1 hour to replace seals and adjust valves.

but with out being able to see smoke ...worried its the piston rings and cylinder wall but can be fixed as long as cylinder wall is in good shape

good luck

Thanks for the reply. How do I go about replacing the valve seals and doing a valve adjustment? Is there a guide that you could recommend? Also, what if the cylinder wall is not in good shape?

Thanks

for valve seals use like below to download service manual it has instructions

warning! When you change the seals put rags in the oil holes under crank so if you drop or loose the valve keepers they do not fall into engine

also remove spark plugs and turn engine over so the pistons are all the way up so the valves do not fall inside engine

but first thing check the .004 adjustment to see if this is why you are you have no compression on cylinder if that side is off adjust and try to run

sorry for multiple posts but using a tablet copy/paste is a pain

if the cylinder wall is scored you will need to measure how bad service manual has specs

they sell oversize pistons .50 oversize from ezgo

Well today I adjusted the valves. I noticed that they were a little tight. I also cleaned out the breather which was covered in grease/oil. I haven't been able to run the engine yet though as I've snapped the head off of one of the three screws that hold the oil filter in. I bought an ezout and tried to remove the remaining piece of screw but the ezout snapped! Now I've got to drill out the ezout and the snapped screw, which is going to be a real pain. A t this point I need new breather gaskets and a new o ring

Hello again, just thought I'd update. So today I re threaded the hole and put the oil filter back together. I ran the engine for a few mins and it started running well and after some time all of the smoke disappeared. It seems like the carb is dirty and needs a clean, which I'm going to do. I guess adjusting the valves has worked. My next task is to degovern the engine and get some more speed out of it
