Default Re: Crown battery not fully charging

I will be placing the batteries on a 12v charger tomorrow. I used a cheap hydrometer on the batteries today and receive very low to nothing on battery 2&3. All other batteries were reading just below 1.3

When I charge tomorrow I’m going to put the cart in Tow. I will leave the entire pack intact as it is. I’ll hook it up to battery 2 positive and battery 3 negative. I’ll Keep an eye on the voltage while they are charging, when they start to get into the 9+ volt range during charging, I’ll turn the charger off and let them rest for an hour or so and see where the rest voltage sits.

Can you let me know if I can charge this way or do I need to disconnect and separate batteries in the pack before charging

Thanks

I don’t know if the charger will output enough voltage to charge those two in Series.
You do not need to disconnect any cables, just connect the charger leads to one battery at a time.

After trying to charge these two batteries individually the specific gravity still remained very low. Crown had returned emails and was great to work with. They replaced these two batteries free of charge and found a local distributor to make the exchange.

Given the problems you had, you will certainly want to expedite the installation of a 48 to 12 volt reducer so that you can draw your accessories equally from all your batteries.

Here is a link to voltage reducers from a recommended site sponsor: https://www.cartsunlimited.net/12v-reducers.html
