Cart Charger Too Loud....Calling GCTech.......
Full disclosure, this isn't a direct EZGo question but I found a dated EZGo thread that could point to help. I am simply trying to get some of the original commentors to see it.
I just finished restoring an old "Worthington" cart that is talked about here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/resto...ml#post1496299 I was given an old Cushman charger for this cart and it actually works fine. However, it's loud. Super loud. Like, the camp neighbors are going to be mad if I use this charger very often loud. I did some forum searches and I came across this former EZGo thread: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-question.html In particular, CGTech mentions inundating the transformer with clear coat which can help. I am going to try this. Can someone, GCTech maybe?, give a bit more detail? I am assuming I should pull the transformer out of the charger and spray the daylights out of it? Is there any value is trying to dip it in clear? |

I don't even remove it from the charger. I turn the charger on it's end, so the transformer windings sit horizontal (instead of vertical, like normal). Hose the whole thing with clear. Wait 15 minutes. Flip it over and hose it again. Wait again. Set it back upright, and wait 24 hours. It will make a unbelievable difference.

The shellac is getting old and the transformer is probably dieing. I ran one for two years before it finally barfed. Remember how hot the transformer gets.

I am not. The chargers I worked with were Very old and I have seen buildings burned down from faulty chargers. There is a time to let them die. If you must proceed, I would contact and/or look up large electric motor rebuilders for what they use.
