Should I go for speed or power?
I'm a new owner of a 2001 E-Z-GO battery cart. See my newbie post "It Came With the House I Bought." Being a semi retired race car and race kart driver, my first inclination is to make this thing go as fast as possible. But that may not be the wisest thing to do. I live in a neighborhood where a third of the residents have various forms of stock carts. Pretty much flat but a few hills that definitely slow my cart going up and restrict the speed coming down. I envision getting a rear seat/flat bed add on for doing a little heavy hauling and maybe occasionally move my 2,000 lb fishing boat around.
I've already done a little research on this site and sponsor sites. I took the cover off the control box (?) and found the plug-in (chip?) that alters the stock performance. There are no wires coming out of the plug which I believe translates to "All Terrain" performance. I've read a little about the "Freedom Chip" but what does that really do for me versus the performance I have now? What motor/control box combination gives the best balance of speed and torque? What performance charateristic is really best to aim for with these electric powered toys? I'm sure I'm asking some broad, open ended questions here so please bear with me while I learn. |

Did I ask this question wrong or venture onto a subject people are sick and tired of answering?

We play on the weekends...
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are describing a PDS cart. The freedom "chip" just gives you the bare minimum on regen motor braking. You'll get about 18-19 mph with it. Sky's the limit on what you want to do. Or maybe wallet is the limit. PDS is a good efficient system with lots of options for torque and speed. Only limiting factor is $$. I'm sure others will post with additional info. Stay tuned! |
