Default 89 parcar rebuild, barely runs..wrong piston?

workin on a 89 parcar thats been sitting awhile, did a top end and it has 100psi, installed piston the right direction, but the piston i put in had the port in the side of it, the old one didnt..cart runs after you choke and crank on it for about 30 seconds, starts out slow then builds up, if you keep it runnin its fine but if you let off and start again you have to go back to chokin it, ive relplaced all lines, rebuilt carb, rebuilt fuel pump, checked timing, cleaned rotor, has decent spark, has good fuel pressure, exhaust is free flowing, ...havent checked crank seals or reed valve.....did i get the wrong piston? its a nivel part that the guy looked up for this cart, im stumped on if it needs that port in the piston or not, any ideas? suggestions? thanks

Nivel is pretty good about really good about having the correct parts, but just in case, attached is the service and parts manual for you to check over. Good luck.

well the piston that came out of it has no port, the piston i have DOES have a port, the cylinder has 3 ports, not 4...so would a piston without a port be the right one? and where can i find one?

The replacement piston IS ported. I went over to the parts department and looked at one on the shelf (Columbia Part # 22001-82A). It has the two holes for the cross pin, and one port. It's the identical part to Nivel's on this link:

Since we've moved away from gas vehicles, we purchase this part from Nivel too.

Your opening post states you installed the right way, just asking port to intake?

ok, any other ideas? as previous stated i replaced all fuel line, a new fuel pick up, took fuel pump and carb apart and cleaned, i did notice that when cranking when i shoot gas into carb it runs instantly, with fuel line disconnected and cranking it definately pumps enough fuel, ive disassembled and cleaned many of these carbs and theres nothing to them, but im beginning to think its a carb/fuel problem, ive checked the timing too and its right on the money...thanks for the replies...

Begining to sound like a fuel supply problem? Can you rig up a temp tank and gravity line from above the motor? To test?

Was this ever resolved? I just bought a complete top end kit for one and it has a port in the new piston and not one in the old. Does the port go to the intake? Why would there be a differance?

port should go to intake and it should have an ex that goes to the exaust.
