2003 EZGO TXT valve adjustment and oil leak.

Just joined this awesome site!

I just got myself a gas ezgo txt for quite cheap. I tested the compression for each Cylinder and was getting about 110 and 105 psi in each. I opened the valve cover and adjusted the valves to .004 while the engine was cold. Now I get over 140psi each. I also did a tune up(plugs, and filter, new oil, etc). First question, what are good compression numbers? Having 140psi, is that good or too much?

I also noticed the new plugs I put in had some black on them already... does that mean the engine is running rich?

Now the oil leak... :(

I am not a mechanic, but have the competence to figure things out. I was told it would be easier to take the engine out and replace whatever gasket that is the source of the leak... has anyone ever done this? Any pointers? And/or does anyone have instructions on how one would remove an enginee? Lol

Depending on where the leak is. Taking the engine out is easy, putting it back in can be a fiddle. Most txt leaks are from the oil filter(easy to do with engine in) and the cam seal cover. Easy again, maybe take the head off for drivers side seal. PCB gasket. Just remove carb etc and done engine in situ. Anything else is pretty much engine out. Look in the stickies for Ezgo gas. Engine removal thread is I think right at the top.
