1st Buggie Project (G-16E)
I bought this stock Yamaha G16E for around $1,500.
Over the last couple of weeks I've done the following: -Replaced Tires and Rims -Installed 400 amp Alltrax Controller -Removed the body to prep for paint (Krylon Fusion Hammered Finish Rattlecan) -Tone down the reverse buzzer -Repaint the vinyl seats white (Duplicolor Vinyl Rattlecan) -Ordered 2 gauge welding wire battery cables -Purchased headlight and LED tail light kit Here are a couple of pictures of my progress: I've still got to wetsand and clear coat the body but I am really happy with the way the paint is laying down. The hammered finish is masking alot of the minor body imperfections. Definately not bad for $20 in paint. My neighborhood is pretty hilly so I'm probably looking at a motor upgrade in the near future once I finish the cosmetics. |

Re: 1st Buggie Project (G-16E)
Hello and Welcome to the forum. The paint looks great! I am in the process of rebuilding a G9 and had looked at the krylon hammered finish paint and was'nt sure how it would look, I may consider it now.
Your cart looks great! How did the vinyl paint work out for you? |

Re: 1st Buggie Project (G-16E)
Update:
Body Work: I had removed the "not a step" trim off of the rear bumpers and filled in the holes with a plastic body filler. After sanding for days with 150 grit then 800 I finally painted the rear body. Now I am starting to wet sand and testing different rattlecan clear coats. Electrics: My 2 gauge cables arrived from East Coast Buggies. Although he didn't use the welding cables like I requested they are still much better than the factory cables. I decided to remove the batteries before replacing all of the high voltage cables and installing the headlight/tailight wiring. Unfortunately, the battery trays were more rusted that I feared. I've stopped the rust and reprimed the trays for now. I'll have the welding shop fab some new trays in a year or two when the batteries are shot. This weekend I'll install reinstall the batteries, the high voltage cables, the controller, the lights and paint the roof. Next week I'll clearcoat and reassemble the body. I should be done by Memorial Day. NewCart Guy asked about using the vinyl spray. I used the white Duplicolor spray. It was a PITA to find anyone with the white in stock. Finally found it at OReily's Auto Parts. I used a degreaser and then acetone to prep the vinyl. The spray laid down well but leaves a dull finish. I'm going to add a third coat this weekend and then use a vinyl/leather conditioner to restore some shine. BTW, I live in Richmond Kentucky. I'll add more pics next week. |

Re: 1st Buggie Project (G-16E)
UPDATE:
I started by replacing my old battery cables with the 2 gauge cables. Here is a side by side pic: When I disconnected the battery cables one of the nuts on the A2 motor terminal was corroded. When I torqued it a little too hard it ended up stripping out and breaking the isolation pad. I thought this was a good excuse to get a PQ rebuild. I sent it to SC and about a week later I received my new motor. In the meantime, I filled in the trim holes on the back fender and finished painting/sanding the body. Here is the rattlecan paint I used along with a couple of pics before wetsanding and clear coating: |
