Question about a v twin Briggs
I noticed one side of the valve push rods are lighter and not as beefy as
the other side..What is the reason for this ?? |

i do know the rev kit fixes this by giving you 2 steel rods to replace those weak aluminums with

I am wondering which side goes where..I didn't notice when I pulled them.
I will probably stick a rev kit in this one, as time goes by..but I am just now getting the engine ready.. Thanks for the response.. I appreciate it. |

That's a new one on me, never heard that before.....The parts list for a 20hp lists a p/n for aluminum and another p/n for steel, that's it.

Wouldn't the exhaust side need the steel rods ??? Anyway, I also went ahead and put the crankshaft back in today.. The seal shoulder is perfect, the clutch placement is perfect..so that part is set. I sure appreciate your reply, I still need to find out why one is steel and the other is not..and where each goes... |

Welp, I looked her up in my repair manual and guess what??? Learn sumpthin new everday......
All models EXCEPT 54000, 61000- Exhaust valve push rods are aluminum. Models 54000, 61000- All push rods are aluminum....... |

What that is saying is that most engines used the aluminum for exhaust, steel for the intake. On the 54000 (31 hp) and 61000 (35 hp) they are both aluminum.

FYI, the nicer rev kit will use billet Aluminum push rods......
