Default Has anybody used the Ausco Ameri-Torque Brake Kit

Has anybody used the Ausco Ameri-Torque Brake kits on the rear of their cart? I am upgrading my cart and the speed I will get may be a bit too much for my standard drums. I was thinking I could go hydraulic brakes on the front down the track in needed, but at the moment would these work. If you have them would you please tell me if:

1) They stop a lot better than the drum brakes now (I have an ezgo) and are they as good as the dealer says?

2) Were they easy to install?

Thanks

Aussie,

All indications are that these are the real deal. I have spoke with them a number of times. I've also read some articals in the industry publications that support their claims.

I know a couple of the sponsors here have added them to their product offering. So, I suspect they are what they say they are.

I cant answer your questions about installation, I hope someone can?

Check with Mike's Motor Toys. He has had a set installed on a PDS for a while.

I have installed about 6 sets so far. every one loves them. They take me about 30 minutes to install. I use floor jacks and air tools.

take drum off,
take 4 bolts out from backing plate,
disconnect brake cable,
install kit.

I am now putting the caliber on top instead on bottom as instructions say. Just switch side with calipers. You use your factory brake cable.

I am hoping EZGO picks these up. Star cart runs them on their carts as standard equiptment.

Aussie: I have a set installed and they work better than the drum brakes, still not perfect but much improved braking and they don't seem to fade like the drum brakes.

they do take some breaking in like car disc brakes. Put a few miles of stopping on them and they will get better.

For you guys that sale them, what's the real difference between the basic and the HD version? Just metallic pads? Thanks!

Hey Court, is putting them on the top better, I suppose they are higher with less chance to get a stick etc. Did you put the brake cables above the springs and is this successful? I am in the process of installing my kit now. thanks

Ok, all finished, they were very easy to install and I have noticed a big difference in the stopping distance.

I tried them fitted on the bottom of the wheel, but I didn't like how low they looked so I switched them around and mounted them on the top as per courts advice. It seems to me that they are better mounted on the top and more out of harms way. There is plenty of space on top (my cart is not lifted) I wonder why the manufacturer doesn't promote top mounted, anyway all is good.

My summary:
easy to install
easy to adjust
they seem/feel like good quality
better stopping than drum brakes
good value for money
when the brakes are applied there is not as much squeaking and whinning than the drum brakes give

All said I am very happy for an improvement in braking for a few hundred dollars.
