Default homemade long travel (no hijacks)

ok so here is my idea. take off my a arms up front recreate them using stronger material (1.75" .188 wall tubing) this will give me better durability as it will be stronger and to the same specs. now what we do is we have the A arms be about 2" wider than the factory ones and have them droop about an inch or 2. This will give us a small lift up front and a more stable ride. The shock mounts will be down closer to the steering knuckle and boxed with 1/4" plate hopefully allowing us to use a stock that is alot longer than factory.

what I'm concerned about is the steering angles I will be encountering. any thoughts

IMHO, I think you would be better off doing an upper/lower control arm setup with long-travel coilovers. We know you have the fab skill to do it, it would just take a little more material, and a little more time.

Your idea would work also, but due to the swing axle setup, the wheels would "lay" too much when the shocks were extended and compressed. The upper/lower would keep them virtually straight up and down.

This is just my opinion. You can wipe your *** with it if you want to, but I just wanted to throw it out there.

I see what you are sayin nono but this would be the poor mans lift. The extra material isn't a big deal as roll cage tubing is 2.30/ft so you wouldn't notie it there. The cost you would notice would be in the hardware.

With this setup you are lookin at 2 heim joints at roughly 35 a piece the setup you speak of has 12 at 35 a piece. now you could go cheaper on the hardware at around 20 a piece but they will wear faster.

My plan would use raptor 700 front shocks and give you prob 10" of travel per side and have under 200 in it

Is your current lift not strong enough?? Is there something wrong with it??
I ask because we have very similar front suspensions. I used the jakes A arms
and moved them downward, outward, forward and used a longer shock. I
gained lift, width, length, travel and maintained the steering geometry.

how did you do all the above and your tie rods stay at the same angle as before? moving the knuckle down and out and all would make them be at a steeper angle.

the questions you asked answer each other. I have noticed a bend in my shock mounts now how bad it is i dunno but id like to solve it and while imin there i might as well mod it a bit ya know

I know the pics are crappy, only ones I have right now.

First pic shows the mockup of the A arm adapter. You can make this adapter
do as much or as little as you want.

This pic shows the riser from the knuckle up to the steering arm (it's hard to
see) the riser reduces the angle.

Have you used the raptor shocks before? I am trying to find a coilover that has a spring rate that I can live with, not too hard or too stiff,I have tried several different shocks and was thinking of trying something from a big quad next.Do you get them off ebay?

spriddle has raptor 660 shocks on his wifes ezgo and I have driven it and seemed like they were pretty good. The 700 from what I have seen has a little more travel to it and should support a touch more.

Yeah ebay is the best place for these. Raptors are a common enogh bike and popular enough that sooo many people just go sstraight to long travel. Finding new shocks is easy for these
