Re: 2004 TXT hard start
Agree with trig
You never mentioned, how does it run once it starts and runs? Why was the carb replaced? Did it have this same issue with the old carb? Have you checked to make sure the timing belt isn’t stretched or jump a tooth? What’s the history on this cart? Did you buy it this way, or have you owned it for a while and it slowly got to this point or did it suddenly happen overnight? Lot of unanswered questions here |

Re: 2004 TXT hard start
How old is the gas? Do you use a stabilizer? I’ve noticed on my generator if I just use gas it fires right up with the auto choke. But if I use stabil it has a hard time with the initial start

Re: 2004 TXT hard start
Also something worth trying just to see, open the airbox lid for a cold start sand see if it starts any easier with the lid removed

Re: 2004 TXT hard start
Possibly something restricting flow at the muffler. Rich on these generally means restricted air flow someplace, intake/filter, or muffler closed off. Crushed tailpipe, mud dobber nest in the exhaust pipe, etc. Since it is 4 stroke, not likely oil build-up.
Another possibility is poorly adjusted carb linkages that don't allow the carb to open all the way, or not open and close at the correct timing. Carb open on shut off causes backfire. I had one fight me due to the square plastic cable retaining clip near the carb simply wasn't fully snapped into the steel mounting bracket. |

It has a fresh tank of ethanol free fuel in it. I took the tank out and cleaned it after see how much junk was in the inline filter and in the bottom of the tank |

Re: 2004 TXT hard start
I removed air box lid and filter removed on a cold start and it was the same as it was out together. Starts much easier, very little use of choke. Runs awful rich is my biggest concern. Intake valves or timing belt possibly is my thoughts from post on here

Re: 2004 TXT hard start
Ok so let’s try this… trust but verify
Take the main jet out of your carb and look at it closely. It should have either an 80, 82, or 90 stamped into the side of it in small numbers. Ezgo carbs are hard to absolutely identify as oem too because they don’t clearly have mikuni or keihin stamped into the body. As JP said that little square clip thing can be a real PITA. Also make sure the cable routes between the starter and the motor so it goes STRAIGHT up to that stupid black clippy thing. Otherwise the cable can bind and it won’t be happy. I also know this is a mci and they’re not common for the valve wear like pre mci but maybe if you could get a picture of the valve adjusters clearly showing the threads on top of the lock nuts. Even the mci if they’re run hard, with governor cranked, and have a bunch of hours the valves can still wear. |
