Can someone explain it to me like I'm 5? I've tried downloading the curtis reg file and removed the txt extension from an earlier message and I'm stilling getting the error.... "The application is not fully configured. Please connect the 1309 USB interface and restart 1314 PCPS again" "Application is running in User Access mode only."

i'd post images but I haven't been here long enough.

Also if I see while in User mode the Max RPM is already 8000 does that mean it's probably set to the highest speed I'll get out of the cart?

I have two 1243 SepEx controllers here
1243-4328 sn:15113B.422630
1243-4204 sn:04154B.102532

I made up an FTDI clone (genuine chip) cable (with modded VID/PID + ID strings and Tx/Rx inversion + blank serial number)

Using 1314-4401 software 3.12 (Build 30) on Windows 10

Plugged into first controller (422630) and immediately saw the Spyglass stream on Tx line and was able to grab internal parameters.

Flush with that success I powered it down and connected the second controller (102532) and... nothing coming out out of the service serial port, changed back to the first unit and nothing coming out of the unit....

RegEdit
IAL & SAL both set as per

line 0000 = 76 00 31 00 EC 00 44 00
line 0008 = 00 00 00

- what happened?

- some Curtis countermeasures ?

I'd have expected the Spyglass stream to be being sprayed out of the Tx line still - is there a magic packet that wakes up the controller?

The Curtis app burps a few packets on startup but both 1243s stay silent

Nothing's apparently changed in the FT232RL EEPROM and serial programs can send and receive happily on loopback...

1314-4401 software?

Does Windows recognize your cable as a 1309?

I ask because the 1314-4402 later software contains the 1309 install and driver and the 1314-4401 doesn't.

So ... if you haven't already ...try installing and using the later software.

Thanks - appreciated

Windows seems OK with the USB <> serial side of things - it's there in Device Manager without any warnings and the adaptor works fine with Putty/Termite in loopback.
-- too junior to post links here :-(

When connection is attempted (serial) the Tx LED on the FTDI board blinks 11 times and some data seems to be sent before E0023 (Communications Error with Controller) pops up.

It is odd that the initial connection showed Spyglass data and allowed reading of parameters - then moved to 2nd unit and nothing from that unit, moved back to original unit and again, nothing - not even the Spyglass data (so, worse off than when I started dang-it, which made me feel I'd maybe been "countermeasured")

I'll try later software - any hints about location of known good copy gratefully received - it's a jungle out there...

edit:
Now installed a copy of 1314-4402 v4.2.2 which looks to recognize my modded FTDI chip / board - a connection attempt burps a train of packets about ½ second long but the controller does not respond and is flashing a 2, 1 code.

another edit...

now working - the issue was a failed Molex crimp on an aluminum cored jumper wire (insulation held but wires u/s - not deliberately cheaped out but good to know that these things are about - or something... sigh... I did it to myself)

https://www.nocoev.com/curtis/Software%201314-4402/

I am confused as to how you managed to program your FTDI lead as a 1309.... and have it recognized as such by Windows.... plus changing the 4402 registry access levels without having the 4402 software installed.

Feel free to email me direct.

Just saw your edit about a bad connection.

You should now alter the 4402 Access levels or just continue to use the older software.

All working ... what a palaver

- smarting a bit over the aluminium wire in the eBay "DuPont" jumper cables - yet another caveat / question to suppliers to add to "are your FTDI chips genuine?" and other electronics irritations ...

Be good if eBay / Amazon got a lot more aggressive about policing fakes and dud components. Not going to happen - but you can dream.

Thanks for your input

Just read most of the posts in this thread and I'm still wondering if there's a chance to get the dev. access level to unlock freedom mode... seems that I need something higher than factory for that. The 1206HB-5201 in my TXT won't accept any setting higher than 14.8mph. Or is there any tweak to do it w/o that access level?
