Sudden loss of speed on G19.
2001 G19 with an altrax 500 watt controller and a D&D torque/speed motor. Wires were all replaced when the motor was installed. Ran fine for about a year. Went on a ride with the kids last week and the cart suddenly lost power and would only go about 3-4 MPH. Whirling/whining sound with some Random jerkyness going the last 1/4 mile or so home. The rear end fluid appears to have gotten water in it so I'll be changing that. Any other ideas what could have happened here? Everything visually looks fine.

If your rear end got water in it, the motor might have also. Water will make a mess inside a motor that has brushes.

Re: Sudden loss of speed on G19.
Everything looks clean and shiny in the motor. The water in the rear end must have happened last year. They built a bridge over the creek crossing so I don't have to drive through shallow water anymore

Took the motor apart, the only thing I see is there looks to be some think plastic flakes stuck on the inside of the case and one wire sticking out on the armature. Anything else look to be bad?

Re: Sudden loss of speed on G19.
Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe @scottyb
Pulled the hubs in the rear, neither are stripped out. Also put the motor back together and did some continuity testing. Everything checks out resistance on f1-f2 is 2.1 ohms which seems high compared to a chart I saw but everything else is good. Frustrating....Halloween is coming and the golf cart is looking like it won't be operational |

Re: Sudden loss of speed on G19.
Motor looks ok to me. It's hard to measure armature resistance with a standard ohm meter. It should be under an ohm but I would look elsewhere for your problem.

Re: Sudden loss of speed on G19.
I can't think of anything else besides the motor itself due to the grinding noise that was associated with it. I guess I'll refill the rear end with new lube and verify no issues were associated with that.

Re: Sudden loss of speed on G19.
So I got everything put back together. The motor is where the noise is coming from. Is there any good way to sort that out. Sounds like something grinding internally as it goes past one of the field coils.

Re: Sudden loss of speed on G19.
Pull it completely apart and carefully look at brushes and commutator. That is the only place that kind of noise will come from. When apart, clean it and also check the bearing on the end of the commutator. The windings should not touch the case. If they are, you will see signs of that when you take it apart.

Re: Sudden loss of speed on G19.
Looks like the speed sensor grenaded. That explains the sudden loss of speed (I think. It won't run over a certain RPM if the speed sensor is disconnected right?
