Default Battery Load Test

I have purchased and installed an digital battery volt meter for my 48 volt cart. I want to test my golf cart batteries under a load test. I have charged up the cart and let it sit for about 12 hours. I assume I should drive the cart on a normal flat street. But what voltage reading should I get when testing it under a load? what would indicate the batteries are good or bad? not sure what kind of drop in voltage I should get under a load test.

A bigger load than flat street would be better.
Find a hill and get some big friends to ride along

Typically you don't want to see a reading lower than the starting voltage minus 1 battery from the pack.
So 38v starting point minus 1 6v battery or 32v under heavy load
50 starting minus 8v = 42v low reading under heavy load.

If lower reading is gotten repeat the test for each individual battery using a handheld meter an alligator type clips.
A 6v battery should not drop below 5v
An 8v battery should not drop below 7v
And a 12v battery shouldn't go below 11 volts

OK, so here are the results of my 48 volt cart (I have six 8 volt batteries). I started off at 50.7 volts. When I rode it on level ground the reading was 47.6 then I went up a fairly big hill and the reading was 45.5 volts. What are your thoughts on these readings?

I see you are not reaching full capacity initially. (unless inline resistance is giving a lower than actual reading)
And I see your draw down is fairly significant for one rider

you mean the start off should be 50.9 instead of 50.7? I was the only one on the cart BUT I weight about 320. (what is inline resistance)?

In line resistance causes a lower reading further away from the pack caused by line and switch resistance.

oh ok. The difference in the in dash meter and what my handheld volt meter says is only about .3volts. So the volt pack should be 50.9 to start with right? What would be a normal droppage of volts if I start off at 50.9 and go up a pretty steep hill in your opinion?

ok, so since mine is reading at 46.7, then I should be in good shape right? Im in the same boat. I just don't know what threshold is a good reading. I read somewhere you don't want a battery to drop more than .4 or .5 of a volt under load.

I know it shouldn't fall below 42 volts but what would be an acceptable or good droppage going up hill with a 500 lbs load? like 47v?
