It's probably a 2 amp trickle charger. No it will not harm your 8 volt batteries, IF you don't let the 12 volt charger charge them to long. You would have to keep an eye on them while charging. Once you get all 6 - 8 volt batteries above 8 volts then the cart charger will come on. It's a lot easier with another 48 volt cart it takes 5 minutes and your cart will be charging. With the 12 volt charger you will have to watch the batteries while charging for hours .
